Roman Nasirov Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Corruption
The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has partially upheld the appeals in the case of former Head of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov, sentencing him to six years in prison for corruption.
The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has made a significant ruling in the case of Roman Nasirov, the former Head of the State Fiscal Service. The court has sentenced Nasirov to six years in prison, as announced by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. This decision marks the culmination of a lengthy judicial process that found Nasirov guilty of committing a crime under part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the court's ruling, Nasirov is to serve a sentence of six years in prison and pay a fine of 17,000 hryvnias. Furthermore, the former head of the State Fiscal Service is prohibited from holding positions in government bodies and state enterprises for a period of three years. This ruling was announced on April 2, when the court reviewed the case against Nasirov and the head of the department.
The court also partially satisfied the appeals from the defense, modifying the previous verdict. Specifically, the testimony of one witness was excluded from the verdict, and the period of pre-trial detention was credited towards the sentence. In other respects, the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the previous ruling. The decision takes effect immediately upon its announcement but can be appealed in cassation to the Supreme Court within three months.
It is important to recall that on October 31, 2025, Roman Nasirov was sentenced to six years of imprisonment and a fine of 17,000 hryvnias. He was suspected of receiving a bribe amounting to 722 million hryvnias from businessman Oleg Bakhmatyuk. Nasirov was arrested in October 2022 and placed in a pre-trial detention center. On April 18, 2023, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) completed their pre-trial investigation into the case.
On May 24, 2024, the press service of the High Anti-Corruption Court reported that a bail of 55 million hryvnias had been posted for Nasirov, allowing him to be released from custody. On April 9, 2025, the civil organization Transparency International Ukraine announced that Roman Nasirov had voluntarily mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the court debates. However, the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces later canceled the order for his mobilization.
On April 10, 2025, the High Anti-Corruption Court extended Nasirov's preventive measure until June 10. He is required to wear an electronic bracelet, surrender his foreign passport, and is prohibited from leaving the Kyiv region. On May 2, 2025, NABU and SAP sent an indictment regarding the bribe to the court, revealing that he had received part of the bribe, exceeding 13 million euros, through a relative into accounts of an offshore company registered in the British Virgin Islands.
