The Madrid football club Real Madrid has officially reacted to the tragic news of the death of legendary Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu, expressing its condolences to the family and close friends of the late coach. This message appeared on the club's official website, where it was noted that the news of Lucescu's passing has caused deep sorrow among all who knew him and worked with him.

In Real Madrid's statement, it said: "Real Madrid, its president, and board of directors express their deep regret over the death of Mircea Lucescu, who was the head coach of the national teams of Romania and Turkey. Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences, as well as love and support to his family, colleagues, clubs, and all his loved ones."

Mircea Lucescu, an outstanding coach who left his mark on many European clubs, passed away at the age of 80. His life came to an end after a prolonged battle with health issues. On March 29 of this year, Lucescu was hospitalized due to serious health problems that arose following Romania's defeat to Turkey (0:1) in the playoff qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup. As a result, on April 2, he stepped down from his position as head coach of the Romanian team.

On April 3, while in the hospital, Lucescu suffered an acute myocardial infarction. Doctors took measures, but his condition worsened, and he was placed in a medically induced coma due to severe cardiac arrhythmias that were unresponsive to treatment. During a computed tomography (CT) scan, numerous signs of ischemic cerebral strokes and pulmonary thromboembolism were detected, and his overall condition was assessed as critical.

Cardiologist Stefan Busnatu, who was monitoring Lucescu's condition, noted that multiple organs were affected—heart, brain, and lungs—significantly increasing the risks. Unfortunately, on April 7, after a prolonged struggle for life, Mircea Lucescu passed away.

The loss of such a prominent coach as Lucescu has been a significant blow not only for his family but also for the entire football world. Earlier, clubs such as Dynamo Kyiv, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Inter Milan reacted to his death, expressing their condolences and honoring the memory of the coach who left a profound mark in the hearts of many.

Mircea Lucescu leaves behind a vast legacy in the world of football, and his contributions to the development of the game will be remembered by many generations to come. Rest in peace, Mircea Lucescu.
