Defense Minister's Advisor Denies Media Reports on Airfield Construction for 'Shahed' Launches from Belarus

An advisor to Ukraine's Defense Minister has refuted claims made by media regarding the construction of airfields in Belarus for launching 'Shahed' drones. This statement comes amidst rising tensions and misinformation.

As reported by Ukrinform, the advisor made the comments via Telegram, expressing his disbelief at the distorted information circulating in the media.

"I have no knowledge of any airfield construction for the launch of 'Shaheds' from Belarus. I am shocked at how information is being twisted. Such distortion unfortunately exerts psychological pressure on our people, who are already facing significant hardships," stated the advisor, Bескрестнов.

He further reminded the public that on March 23, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the destruction of four drone control antennas of the Shahed type in Belarus. At that time, the President indicated that these antennas could potentially be redeployed.

“Then on April 5, an article was published by Forbes, where the author misinterpreted the President's words and referred to the drone control antennas as 'long-range bases.' Today, all media outlets are spreading the alarming news that four bases are being constructed in Belarus for launching 'Shaheds' against Ukraine, citing Forbes as their source,” he noted.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, on March 23, following a briefing by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) Oleg Ivashchenko, President Zelensky stated that Russia plans to further deploy ground control stations for long-range drones both in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and on Belarusian territory.

The situation continues to evolve as misinformation can have serious implications for public perception and morale. It is crucial for the media and the public to rely on verified information, especially in times of conflict.

In light of these developments, the advisor's comments underscore the importance of clarity and accuracy in reporting, particularly regarding military operations and strategic developments in the region.

The ongoing conflict has already placed immense pressure on the Ukrainian population, and the spread of false information can exacerbate these challenges. As such, it is vital for all stakeholders to engage in responsible communication practices.
