Ukrainian Parliament Supports Revised Bill on Taxation of Digital Platforms

The Ukrainian Parliament continues its active legislative efforts aimed at improving the country's economic situation. On April 7, Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced a significant decision made by lawmakers regarding the taxation of digital platforms.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is making steady progress on legislative initiatives designed to enhance the economic landscape of the nation. Recently, on April 7, Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak from the parliamentary faction 'Holos' shared an important update via his Telegram channel regarding a decision reached by lawmakers. They supported, in the first reading, the revised bill No. 15111-d, which pertains to the taxation of digital platforms. This bill is part of a broader reform package necessary for securing funding from the International Monetary Fund.

According to information provided by Zheleznyak, the bill was adopted in its foundational form with 234 votes in favor. This indicates that the deputies view this initiative as crucial for the development of the digital economy in Ukraine. However, it is important to note that the bill will undergo further refinements before the second reading, which opens the door for amendments and clarifications.

One of the key modifications made to the revised text of the bill was the exclusion of provisions related to the taxation of used goods. This decision has elicited a positive response from entrepreneurs operating on digital platforms, as it alleviates the financial burden on small and medium-sized businesses. Additionally, lawmakers abolished the requirement for sellers utilizing these platforms to open special accounts, further easing the conditions for conducting business in today's market.

Another significant change was the cancellation of the mandatory disclosure of banking secrecy concerning sellers' income. This decision underscores the legislators' commitment to protecting the privacy of entrepreneurs and fostering a more favorable business environment in Ukraine. Yaroslav Zheleznyak emphasized that these changes represent important steps toward establishing a transparent and effective taxation system for digital platforms.

It is worth noting that on the same day, April 7, the Verkhovna Rada also adopted in its foundational form and overall the government bill No. 15110, which proposes extending the military tax for three years following the end of martial law. This bill is vital for ensuring the financial stability of the country amid ongoing war and economic challenges.

Thus, the adoption of the bill concerning the taxation of digital platforms marks another step toward modernizing the economic environment in Ukraine. Lawmakers continue to work on refining legislation aimed at supporting entrepreneurship and the development of new technologies. It is essential that these changes are implemented effectively and positively impact the business climate in the country.
