Weather Forecast: Night Frosts and Strong Winds in Ukraine
This week, Ukraine is bracing for night frosts and strong winds, conditions that could significantly impact agriculture. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center's forecast, cool weather with rain in certain regions will persist, with frosts expected to last until Easter.
This week, Ukraine is expecting night frosts and strong winds, conditions that could have a substantial effect on agriculture. According to the forecast from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the weather will remain cool, with rain in some regions, and frosts are anticipated to last until Easter. Ivan Semilyt, a meteorologist from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, provided these insights.
"Across the entire territory of Ukraine this week, we expect frosts during the night hours," the expert noted. "On the night of April 7, frosts will occur in the western, northern, and most central regions, while on April 8-9, ground frosts will range from 0 to -3 degrees Celsius across the entire territory of Ukraine." This situation poses serious challenges for farmers, as frosts can damage crops.
The meteorologist also emphasized that in some regions, frosts may occur not only on the ground's surface but also in the air, which is even more dangerous for agriculture. This is particularly true for the regions of Zakarpattia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv, while on April 9, conditions may worsen in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Luhansk.
Air temperatures in Ukraine will fluctuate between +1 and +7 degrees Celsius. Atmospheric fronts will bring rain, and on April 8-9, there may even be precipitation in the form of wet snow. In the Carpathians, moderate snowfall is expected on April 9, which could complicate the situation for tourists and local residents.
In addition, strong winds are anticipated across Ukraine. A warning has already been issued for gusts of wind reaching 15-20 m/s on Tuesday, April 7, especially in the western part of the country. This will add further discomfort during the cool period, the expert noted.
The wave of coolness enveloping Ukraine is linked to the "northern process" in the atmosphere. "A cyclone from Scandinavia will move eastward," the meteorologist explained, "and in its rear part, there will be an influx of arctic air from northern directions into our territory." This will lead to a drop in temperature and a deterioration of weather conditions.
On April 10-11, the risk of frosts will remain high at night, while daytime temperatures will only rise to +3 to +10 degrees Celsius across Ukraine. However, in Zakarpattia, temperatures are expected to reach up to +14 degrees Celsius, which will be a noticeable contrast to other regions.
On Easter, April 12, rain is possible only in the south and east of Ukraine, while other regions will remain dry. Despite the night frosts ranging from 0 to -3 degrees Celsius, meteorologists predict higher nighttime temperatures in the south and southeast: +1 to +6 degrees Celsius. During the day, air temperatures across the country will rise to +7 to +14 degrees Celsius.
According to the current calculations of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, night frosts are expected to leave the territory of Ukraine around mid-April, which will be after the holidays. Next week, a warmer air mass is anticipated to arrive, raising temperatures both during the day and at night.
In the capital and surrounding areas, this week is also expected to see cloudy weather with some clearings, light rains, and on April 8-9, wet snow. However, closer to the holiday, on April 10-11, the region will experience dry weather. Nighttime temperatures in the region are expected to be between +1 and +6 degrees Celsius, but ground frosts of 0 to -3 degrees Celsius are anticipated. During the day, temperatures will range from +4 to +9 degrees Celsius.
On April 9, both at night and during the day, temperatures in the Kyiv region will be between +1 and +6 degrees Celsius. On April 10-11, frosts are also forecasted in the region—0 to -3 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures will rise to +3 to +8 degrees Celsius. Frosts in Kyiv are expected to peak at the end of the week, on April 10-11, when temperatures will range from 0 to -2 degrees Celsius.
The coldest day in Kyiv this week will be April 9, when temperatures will only reach +1 to +3 degrees Celsius. However, starting on April 10-11, a trend towards gradual temperature increase is expected, with daytime temperatures forecasted at +5 to +7 degrees Celsius.
On Easter, April 12, the weather in the capital will resemble the national forecast: light frosts will persist at night, while daytime temperatures will rise to +7 to +13 degrees Celsius.
