Serhiy Kruk, the head of the State Emergency Service (DSNS), emphasized the dual threat posed by fires, stating, "Fires not only cause harm to nature but also endanger lives and property." He underscored the importance of intensifying fire prevention efforts, especially in forested areas where the risk of ignition is significantly heightened. With global warming leading to droughts and rising temperatures, immediate action is required to reduce the likelihood of fire outbreaks.
Experts have pointed out that one of the contributing factors to the increase in fire incidents is the public's lack of awareness regarding safety regulations. "Many people do not realize how crucial it is to adhere to basic rules, such as not starting fires in forests or leaving trash that can catch fire," noted environmentalist Olena Tyshchenko. She also highlighted that educational campaigns aimed at raising public awareness could significantly mitigate the risks of fire occurrences.
The Ukrainian government is already developing new programs that not only aim to improve the infrastructure for combating fires but also to create new training courses for the public. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated, "We plan to introduce mandatory fire safety courses in schools so that children learn from an early age how to act in case of a fire." This initiative aims to equip the younger generation with the knowledge necessary to respond effectively to fire emergencies.
Furthermore, plans are underway in Ukraine to modernize the technical equipment of fire departments. "Old equipment does not always respond effectively to new challenges, so it is essential to invest in new technologies and tools," Serhiy Kruk remarked. He also stressed the importance of collaborating with international organizations that can provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance in combating fires.
