President Honors Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People

On October 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the awarding of state honors to representatives of the Crimean Tatar people, emphasizing the importance of their support in Ukraine's struggle for independence.

Today, October 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the awarding of state honors to representatives of the Crimean Tatar people. This information was shared by the head of state on his Telegram channel, as reported by Ukrinform.

In his address, Zelensky underscored the significance of supporting the Crimean Tatar people in their fight for Ukraine's independence, stating, "I am grateful to you for being with Ukraine. I thank everyone who fights for our state, for the independence of Ukraine, for our rights and territorial integrity." These words have become a symbol of unity and a collective struggle for freedom and dignity.

The President also announced the signing of a decree aimed at providing more real opportunities for the defense of Ukraine and Crimea, as well as for the support of the Crimean Tatar people. "This decree provides more real opportunities to defend all of Ukraine and our Crimea – all our people and the indigenous people, the Crimean Tatar people, our security, our right to live freely on our land," he noted.

Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of the Mejlis as the representative body of the Crimean Tatar people, highlighting its role in ensuring the rights and interests of this community. "The Mejlis has always been and is the representative body of the Crimean Tatar people, this has been and is a fact. And we are legally and politically reinforcing this so that your opportunities are stronger and our common Ukrainian opportunities are stronger," the President stated.

The head of state also drew attention to the necessity of putting an end to Russian aggression, attacks, and abuse, emphasizing that guaranteeing all components of security for Ukraine is a collective task. "And we can only do this together – fundamentally – all in Ukraine, all in Europe, all in the world. If we continue to be maximally effective, active, and not forget the lessons of the past," he concluded.

Furthermore, it became known that Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to urgently address the issue of securing the Mejlis's status as the representative body of the Crimean Tatar people. This decision is of great importance for the future activities of the Mejlis, which was established in 1991 and is the only supreme representative-executive body of the Crimean Tatar people.

Despite its significant role, the Mejlis has long lacked the appropriate legal status. Once this legal issue is resolved, the Mejlis will be able to actively participate in the development of state programs and represent the interests of the Crimean Tatar people at all levels.

Thus, the awarding of representatives of the Crimean Tatar people and the President's initiatives regarding the securing of the Mejlis's status reflect the importance of supporting the rights of indigenous peoples of Ukraine and their participation in shaping the future of the state.
