Pakistan's Prime Minister Calls for Adherence to Ceasefire in the Middle East Amid Escalating Tensions

On April 8, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a significant statement urging all parties involved in the Middle East conflict to respect a two-week ceasefire previously agreed upon, as reports of multiple violations emerged.

On April 8, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, issued a crucial statement highlighting the alarming reports of numerous violations of the ceasefire regime at various points within the conflict zone in the Middle East. In a post on the social media platform X, he called upon all parties to adhere to the two-week ceasefire that had been previously agreed upon, allowing diplomacy to play its role in the peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Sharif emphasized, "In several locations within the conflict zone [in the Middle East], there have been reports of ceasefire violations, undermining the spirit of the peace process. I sincerely and passionately urge all parties to exercise restraint and adhere to the two-week ceasefire, as agreed, so that diplomacy can take the lead in the peaceful resolution of the conflict."

In response to these calls, the Fars news agency, citing sources within Iranian security forces, reported that Iran is completing preparations for a "deterrence operation" against Israel. This development comes amid allegations that Israel has violated the ceasefire by attacking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

On the night of April 8, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a decision to suspend bombings against Iran for two weeks, contingent upon the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that the United States had already achieved and exceeded all defined military objectives and had made "significant progress" towards reaching a final peace agreement.

Subsequently, Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed the agreement on a two-week ceasefire with the United States, marking an important step in reducing tensions in the region. Israel also agreed to suspend bombings during negotiations; however, it stated that this ceasefire does not apply to the ongoing conflict in Lebanon against Hezbollah.

Following the announcement of the ceasefire, Israeli military officials reported a large-scale operation, during which over 100 command centers and military sites of Hezbollah in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon were attacked within a span of 10 minutes. These actions raised new concerns among the international community.

Additionally, after the ceasefire announcement, Iran's national oil refining company reported a "hostile attack" on an oil refinery on Lavan Island. This situation raised further questions regarding security in the region.

At the same time, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain also reported attacks from Iran, which included the use of drones and missiles. Reuters reported that Iranian forces struck a Saudi oil pipeline that was used to circumvent the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

These events indicate that, despite efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution, the situation in the Middle East remains tense and unpredictable, presenting numerous challenges for international security and stability in the region.
