Ukrainian Air Defense Shoots Down 99 of 119 Drones; 16 Strikes Recorded at 11 Locations
Ukrainian air defense forces have showcased remarkable effectiveness by destroying 99 out of 119 hostile drones that targeted the country's territory. Despite these successes, 16 strike drones managed to hit 11 locations, with debris from the downed drones falling on four of them.
The Ukrainian air defense has demonstrated a high level of efficiency, successfully neutralizing 99 of the 119 enemy drones that attacked the country's territory. This information was released by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasizing the critical importance of protecting the airspace amid ongoing aggression. Despite the impressive interception rate, the attack resulted in 16 strike drones hitting 11 locations, with debris from the downed drones impacting four of those sites.
According to reports, as of 08:00, air defense forces had shot down or suppressed 119 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas, which launched attacks from the north, south, and east of Ukraine. The assault occurred on the night of April 9, starting from 18:00 on April 8, when the adversary attempted a massive strike using 119 strike UAVs from directions such as Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from Hvardiyiske in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Donetsk. Approximately 70 of these drones were so-called 'Shaheds,' which have been used multiple times in previous attacks.
To repel the aerial assault, various forces and means were engaged: aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all units, significant results were achieved in the fight against enemy drones; however, the situation remains tense.
Furthermore, the Air Forces noted that the attack is ongoing, and several enemy UAVs are still present in the airspace. This indicates that the adversary continues to attempt new strikes despite the losses incurred during previous attacks. Authorities are urging the population to remain vigilant and adhere to all safety measures due to potential new aerial threats.
This situation once again underscores the importance of supporting and developing Ukraine's air defense system, which is becoming increasingly relevant in the context of modern military conflicts.
