EU Ambassador Katerina Maternova Discovers Fragment of Russian Drone During Walk in Kyiv Forest

Katerina Maternova, the European Union's Ambassador to Ukraine, discovered a fragment of a Russian Shahed drone during a leisurely walk in a forest in Kyiv. She shared this event on her Facebook page, emphasizing that the find serves as a vivid example of the new realities that Ukraine encounters in the context of war.

Maternova expressed her thoughts, stating, "I love forests. I am used to finding mushrooms or the first spring flowers there. This time, I found a large fragment of a Shahed drone! This is how war changes a country. This is the reality in Ukraine today." Her words reflect not only her personal experiences but also the general atmosphere in which Ukrainian society lives.

It is important to note that the found drone fragment did not contain any explosive elements, which undoubtedly came as a relief to the ambassador. However, she also stressed that despite this discovery, Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine, resulting in civilian casualties. According to her, at least 16 people have died recently due to these attacks, despite Kyiv's proposal for an Easter truce.

"This cannot become the norm. Walking through a spring forest and finding fragments of weapons designed to take human lives. Ukraine deserves peace. Ukrainians deserve to walk through their forests without fear," Maternova emphasized, calling for peace and stability in Ukraine.

This incident is not the only noteworthy event in the ambassador's life. On February 3, she recounted how she had to sleep in a bathroom during a massive Russian strike on Kyiv. At that time, she posted a photo of herself sitting on the bathroom floor in a tracksuit. This moment garnered some reactions in Russian media, particularly from Maria Zakharova, who posted a cynical comment on social media, labeling Maternova's photo as "an un-erotic photograph of sexual life."

Zakharova also accused Maternova of "insincerity" and repeated typical narratives of Russian propaganda regarding the war against Ukraine. In response to these attacks, Maternova stated that Zakharova targeted her not only as the EU ambassador but also as a woman, as she speaks daily about the horrors of Russian attacks on Ukraine.
