EU Ambassador Discovers Drone Fragment During Forest Walk

Katarina Maternova, the European Union Ambassador to Ukraine, made a startling discovery while enjoying a walk in a forest in Kyiv. She found a fragment of a Russian drone, commonly referred to as 'Shahed'. This revelation was shared on her Facebook page, where she emphasized that her find serves as a vivid testament to the new realities that the Ukrainian populace is confronting in the context of war.

In her post, Maternova expressed her love for forests, stating, 'I love forests. I am used to finding mushrooms or the first spring flowers there. This time, I found a large fragment of the 'Shahed' drone! This is how war changes a country. This is the reality in Ukraine today.' Her words reflect the profound transformations that have occurred in the daily lives of Ukrainians due to Russian aggression.

The ambassador noted that the fragment she discovered did not contain any explosive elements, which is certainly a positive aspect of the situation. However, despite this fact, Maternova stressed that the war in Ukraine continues, and such discoveries should not become a norm for the country's residents. She pointed out that despite Ukraine's proposal for an Easter truce, Russia persists in its attacks, which have resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people and injuries to over 90 others.

'This cannot become the norm. To stroll through a spring forest and find remnants of weapons designed to take human lives. Ukraine deserves peace. Ukrainians deserve to walk through their forests without fear,' Maternova remarked, expressing her outrage over the situation in the country.

It is important to note that EU Ambassador Katarina Maternova also condemned the recent Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities that occurred on April 3, coinciding with the Christian observance of Good Friday. These attacks further confirm that peaceful initiatives do not resonate with the Russian side, which continues to target civilian populations.

In light of these events, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced an invitation for a U.S. negotiating delegation to visit Kyiv, indicating a ramping up of diplomatic efforts to seek pathways to peace.
