US Ambassador to NATO: Trump Reassessing Support for European Efforts in Ukraine

On Wednesday, October 18, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker made a significant statement revealing that President Donald Trump is reassessing not only the country's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance but also its support for European efforts in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, October 18, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker made a significant statement revealing that President Donald Trump is reassessing not only the country's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance but also its support for European efforts in Ukraine. This information was reported by the publication "European Truth," citing an interview Whitaker gave to the Newsmax channel.

Whitaker responded to journalists' questions about whether Ukraine is one of the factors Trump is considering while evaluating relations with NATO. "I think it is now quite clear that President Trump is analyzing and reassessing everything. Whether it is our participation in NATO, our support for European efforts in Ukraine, or anything else that the United States is involved in," he noted.

The ambassador emphasized that Trump was elected by the American people with the principle of "America First" in mind. "As Commander-in-Chief, he has the right to make many of these decisions. Therefore, we will act according to his intentions when he makes a decision. For now, everything remains on the table," Whitaker added, highlighting that the issue of support for Ukraine remains open.

This statement from Whitaker comes in the wake of recent comments from Trump, who, in an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph, stated that he is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO. He cited the Alliance's position regarding the US war in Iran as a reason for such consideration.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also expressed the view that after the conflict in Iran concludes, the United States will reassess the necessity of NATO membership. However, according to media reports, both the US Congress and the Pentagon have denied any discussions regarding the country's exit from NATO. Meanwhile, within the Alliance, Trump's threats to sever ties with the bloc are considered bluffs.

Additionally, the Financial Times reported that Trump allegedly threatened European allies to halt arms supplies to Ukraine under the PURL program if they did not join the operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. This information has raised concerns among US European partners who are trying to maintain stability in Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.

Thus, the situation surrounding US support for Ukraine and its European allies remains tense, and Trump's further actions could significantly impact developments in the region. Observers note that the future of Ukraine and the stability of all of Europe depend on how relations between the United States and NATO evolve.
