Over 10,000 People Left Without Electricity in Chernihiv Region Following Russian Strike
In the early hours of April 6, more than 10,000 subscribers in the Chernihiv region of northern Ukraine were left without electricity due to a Russian strike on the region's energy infrastructure.
In the early hours of April 6, over 10,000 subscribers in the Chernihiv region, located in northern Ukraine, found themselves without electricity as a result of a Russian strike targeting the energy infrastructure of the area. According to the local energy company, Chernihivoblenergo, an energy enterprise in the Novhorod-Siverskyi district was affected, leading to the outage that left more than 10,000 subscribers in the same district without power.
This incident serves as yet another confirmation of Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, consistently plunging Ukrainians into darkness. Periodic power outages have become a common occurrence amid the relentless assaults from Russia, highlighting the precarious situation faced by the population.
Amid record-low temperatures during the winter, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, disregarding the dire humanitarian situation. In January, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared a state of emergency in the energy sector, particularly in Kyiv, following Russian strikes that left residents without electricity, heating, and water during freezing conditions.
On January 13, approximately 70% of Kyiv was left without electricity due to Russian strikes on the Ukrainian capital. Additionally, the city of Sumy experienced power outages following Russian attacks in northeastern Ukraine at the end of December, while an assault on Odesa on December 12 damaged infrastructure, leaving parts of the coastal city without electricity and water.
These events underscore the persistent threat posed by Russian aggression to the civilian population of Ukraine, as well as the challenges the country faces amid ongoing warfare. Authorities and energy companies continue to work diligently to restore electricity and provide essential resources to the population, yet the situation remains complex and fraught with difficulties.
