Weather in Ukraine: Frost Until Easter, but Warmer Temperatures Expected After the Holidays

A cold atmospheric front sweeping across Ukraine has brought frost that will affect the entire country. Meteorologist Ivan Semilyt provided insights on how long the cold weather will last, what changes to expect for Easter, and when significant warming can be anticipated.

A cold atmospheric front, which has enveloped Ukraine, has brought with it frost that will impact the entire territory of the country. In an interview with NV, meteorologist Ivan Semilyt detailed how long the cold weather will last in Ukraine, what changes are expected for Easter, and when noticeable warming can be expected.

"Across the entire territory of Ukraine this week, we expect frost during the night hours. On the night of April 7, frost will be present in the western, northern, and most central regions, while on April 8-9, ground frost will range from 0 to -3 degrees across the entire country. Moreover, in some regions, frost may occur not only on the ground but also in the air, which poses an even greater danger to plants. Overall, air temperatures across the country will fluctuate between +1 and +7 degrees. At the same time, atmospheric fronts will bring rain to Ukraine, and on April 8-9, there may even be a combination of rain and wet snow. In the Carpathians, moderate snow is expected on April 9. Additionally, there will be wind in Ukraine. At least for Tuesday, April 7, there is already a warning for gusts of 15-20 m/s, primarily in the west. This will add even more discomfort during such a cool period," Semilyt warned.

Semilyt also explained where the Scandinavian cyclone will originate from, how temperatures will change on Easter, and when warm air masses will cover Ukraine. "This wave of cool air this week is moving into Ukraine due to a northern process in the atmosphere. A cyclone from Scandinavia will move eastward, and in its rear part, there will be an intrusion of arctic air from the northern directions into our territory. On April 10-11, the risk of frost will still be high at night, while during the day it will be slightly warmer: from +3 to +10 across Ukraine, and only in Transcarpathia do we expect temperatures up to +14. On Easter, there will be rain in some areas only in the south and east of the country, while other regions will remain dry. Although there will mostly be frost at night, ranging from 0 to -3 degrees, in the south and southeast, meteorologists predict slightly higher nighttime temperatures: +1 to +6. During the day, temperatures across the country will warm up to +7 to +14 degrees. According to current calculations from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, nighttime frosts are expected to leave the country around mid-April, that is, after the holiday. Next week, a warmer air mass will arrive, which will warm the air more during both the day and night," the expert noted.

Thus, Ukrainians can expect cold nights with frost, but with hope for warming after Easter. These forecasts are crucial for farmers who must be prepared for possible negative consequences for vegetation, as well as for everyone planning celebrations during these days.
