Mine Clearance Units Cleared Nearly 900 Hectares of Liberated Territories in March - Ministry of Defense

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has released information regarding the mine clearance efforts conducted in March 2023, revealing that nearly 900 hectares of land were cleared from Russian occupation.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has made public the results of the mine clearance operations carried out in March 2023. According to data provided by the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, a total of 876 hectares of land, liberated from Russian invaders, were cleared during March. This activity is part of a broader program that has, since the beginning of the year, covered a total of 2,831 hectares.

Among the cleared areas, mine clearance specialists focused on critical infrastructure sites. Specifically, 65.43 hectares of agricultural land, 10.67 kilometers of roads, 3.73 kilometers of power lines, and 46.44 kilometers of railway tracks were cleared. These actions are vital for restoring normal life in the liberated regions and ensuring the safety of local residents.

It is noteworthy that throughout March, specialists discovered and destroyed 557 explosive objects. In total, since the onset of Russia's large-scale invasion, 481,590 hazardous items have been neutralized. This statistic underscores the serious threats faced by Ukrainians and the urgent need to continue efforts in this area.

As of early April 2023, according to the Ministry of Defense, the number of casualties from mines and unexploded remnants of war reached 1,431 individuals. Among the victims are 147 children and 1,284 adults. This data highlights the critical importance of mine clearance work, as the danger remains severe, and each day can be fatal for those unaware of hidden threats.

To clear the liberated territories of explosive objects, the Ministry of Defense engages mine clearance units from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the State Special Transport Service. This collaboration allows for the most effective execution of tasks and ensures the safety of the population.

In February 2023, the Ministry of Defense's units already cleared 800 hectares of liberated territories, indicating ongoing progress in this crucial endeavor. It is also worth noting that the State Emergency Service units have cleared nearly 200,000 hectares of land and neutralized 600,000 explosive objects since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.

This information underscores the importance and necessity of continuing mine clearance operations in Ukraine, as the safety of citizens remains a priority for the state. Clearing territories of dangerous objects is a key step in restoring normal life in regions affected by the war.
