Prospects of the Ukrainian Defense Technology Market: New KSE Institute Study
The KSE Institute, in collaboration with Brave1 and Defence Builder, has unveiled a new study that thoroughly analyzes the defense technology market in Ukraine, highlighting significant opportunities for international investors eager to invest in this strategically important sector.
The KSE Institute, together with companies Brave1 and Defence Builder, has released a comprehensive study that delves into the defense technology market in Ukraine. This research emphasizes the vast potential available for international investors looking to place their funds in this strategically vital industry.
According to information provided by representatives of the KSE Institute to NV Business, it is anticipated that by 2025, the volume of the defense technology market in Ukraine will reach an impressive $6.8 billion. Notably, the technological segments of the market are expected to demonstrate significantly faster growth compared to the overall dynamics of the industry. For instance, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are projected to grow by 137%, ground robotic complexes (GRCs) by 488%, and electronic warfare systems (EWS) by 215%. It is important to note that actual figures may be even higher, as a substantial portion of procurement remains outside official statistics, particularly through charitable funds, direct contracts from units, and in-house production by brigades.
The study highlights three key market segments that possess the greatest investment potential. The first is UAVs, which represent the largest and most mature segment, with a projected volume of $6.3 billion by 2025. The fastest growth is expected in long-range drones and interceptors, while first-person view (FPV) drones remain the most widespread segment. Among the promising areas for development are interceptor drones, which are just beginning to scale, as well as middle-strike systems and domestic alternatives to reconnaissance multicopters that could serve as alternatives to Chinese DJI products.
The second significant segment is ground robotic complexes (GRCs), which are currently just forming but are already showing rapid growth. Forecasts suggest that by 2025, their volume will reach $252 million, marking a sixfold increase within a year. Logistics and evacuation platforms are the primary drivers of this growth and are already ready for scaling. Strike systems and mine-clearing systems are opening new niches with substantial long-term demand.
The third segment comprises electronic warfare systems (EWS), which ensure the effectiveness of all other technologies. Their volume is expected to reach $220 million, growing by a factor of 3.1. The market is transitioning from disparate solutions to serial production of proven platforms, with a focus on software-defined 'smart' systems capable of analyzing signals and selectively suppressing them.
By 2025, Ukrainian defense companies and startups are projected to attract at least $129 million in investments and grants. This figure represents a minimum estimate, as some deals remain undisclosed for security reasons. The greatest investor interest is concentrated in the artificial intelligence and software segment, indicating the growing importance of these technologies in modern defense infrastructure.
The potential for the restoration and development of Ukraine's defense sector over a ten-year horizon following the conclusion of hostilities is estimated at an astounding $690 billion. This indicates that the defense technology market holds immense opportunities for growth and development, which can be realized with the support of international investors.
It is noteworthy that the United Kingdom will open a business center in Kyiv this year, aimed at accelerating the supply of military equipment to Ukraine. This also underscores international interest in the Ukrainian defense sector.
In February 2026, it was reported that four Ukrainian defense manufacturers signed a package of documents with partners from Denmark, Finland, and Latvia. The total value of the agreements amounted to approximately 800 million euros, further confirming the growing interest in Ukrainian defense technologies on the international stage.
