First Railway Service from Ukraine to Bulgaria Planned for Early June
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Oleksiy Kuleba, announced plans for the launch of the first railway service from Ukraine to Bulgaria via his Telegram channel. Preliminary agreements on the route and schedule have been reached to ensure maximum convenience for Ukrainian passengers.
Oleksiy Kuleba, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister for Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, has revealed exciting plans for the introduction of the first railway service connecting Ukraine to Bulgaria. In a recent update on his Telegram channel, Kuleba stated that preliminary agreements have been established regarding the route and schedule, which are designed to provide optimal convenience for Ukrainian travelers.
The planned route will traverse key cities including Kyiv, Lviv, Chernivtsi, Suceava, Bucharest, and Varna. This strategic path aims to facilitate a comfortable and convenient travel experience for those wishing to journey between these two nations. The estimated travel time is expected to be up to 30 hours, which is comparable to traveling by bus. However, Kuleba emphasized that the railway option will be significantly more comfortable and predictable. The exact travel duration will be confirmed following a test run of the service.
Kuleba further noted that efforts are ongoing to configure the route in a way that minimizes delays for rolling stock. This is crucial as it helps to maintain ticket prices without increasing costs for passengers, while also preserving the resources of the train cars for other routes. According to Kuleba, both the Romanian and Bulgarian sides have tentatively agreed to include the route in the PSO (Public Service Obligation) mechanism, which would help lower ticket prices. Negotiations on this matter are currently underway.
The next step in realizing this ambitious project will involve finalizing the tariff solution and launching a test train in collaboration with partners. The commencement of services between Ukraine and Bulgaria is slated for early June, which promises to open new travel opportunities for citizens of both countries.
It is worth noting that earlier discussions between Oleksiy Kuleba and the Bulgarian Minister of Transport and Communications, Korman Ismailov, focused on the establishment of passenger rail connections between Ukraine and Bulgaria. This initiative represents a significant advancement in transportation infrastructure and the strengthening of ties between the two nations.
