Negotiations Between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. on Hold, Claims Kremlin
On Monday, April 6, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are currently on hold, citing difficulties in convening due to other priorities in the U.S.
On April 6, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are presently on pause. According to him, it is challenging to gather in such a format as 'the Americans have many other matters to attend to.' This information was reported by the Russian propaganda agency Interfax.
Peskov emphasized that the negotiation process is 'currently on pause,' complicating the possibility of holding trilateral meetings. He noted that, given the current situation, organizing such a meeting is difficult because the U.S. has other priorities.
When asked about a potential visit by an American delegation to Kyiv, Peskov replied that the Kremlin is unaware of any such plans. This raised some questions, as the Ukrainian side, particularly the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, had previously expressed hopes for the arrival of an American delegation.
On Saturday, April 4, Budanov mentioned in an interview with Bloomberg that Ukraine anticipates the arrival of a U.S. delegation led by special envoy to President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, along with Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. According to Budanov, the delegation could arrive soon after Orthodox Easter, which is celebrated on April 12 this year. He also noted that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham might join the team.
During a meeting of the CEO Club Ukraine on April 3, Budanov stated that the peace negotiation process between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. is ongoing but is 'extremely complex.' This indicates that despite the pause in negotiations, both sides continue to seek ways to achieve peace.
On April 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in negotiations with U.S. representatives that took place in a video format. The Ukrainian side was also represented by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, while the American side included special envoy to President Trump Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. This meeting was significant for discussing further steps in relations between the countries and seeking pathways to peacefully resolve the conflict.
Thus, the situation surrounding the negotiations remains tense, and although the Kremlin claims that the process is suspended, the Ukrainian side continues to hope for the activation of dialogue with the U.S. and Russia. It is important to note that negotiations in this format are complicated due to numerous political and social factors affecting both sides.
