Pakistan Invites Delegations from Iran and the USA for Talks in Islamabad

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made a significant announcement inviting delegations from Iran and the United States to a meeting in Islamabad. Sharif shared his invitation on the social media platform X on Wednesday, April 8. He noted that Iran and the United States, along with their allies, have reached an agreement for an immediate ceasefire in all regions, including Lebanon. "I sincerely welcome this wise step and express my deep gratitude to the leadership of both countries, and I invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, for further negotiations on reaching a final settlement agreement for all disputes," wrote Shehbaz Sharif in his post.

This initiative is the result of recent high-level negotiations. On the night of April 8, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to suspend bombings in Iran for two weeks, contingent upon the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump emphasized that this agreement entails a mutual ceasefire, which is an important step towards reducing tensions between the countries.

Later, Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed the agreement for a two-week ceasefire with the United States. The statement indicated that the agreement was made with the consent of Iran's new Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, which reflects the seriousness of the Iranian leadership's intentions to achieve peace.
