Market Operator Announces Course on Balancing Market as Part of Electricity Market Awareness Program
The Market Operator of Ukraine has announced a course titled 'Balancing Market and Producers,' scheduled for April 28. This initiative is part of the company's social program aimed at enhancing awareness of the electricity market operations in Ukraine.
The Market Operator of Ukraine, known as AT 'Operator Rynku,' has officially announced the upcoming course 'Balancing Market and Producers,' which is set to take place on April 28. This event is a key component of the company's social program, designed to raise awareness about the functioning of the electricity market in Ukraine. The primary objective of the course is to foster a systematic understanding of the principles governing the balancing market and the role of producers within it.
As stated by the Market Operator on its official website, the consultations will focus on practical cases and common mistakes made by market participants. These errors can lead to significant financial losses, particularly due to the emergence of imbalances, the provision of balancing services, and pricing on the balancing market. 'The format of the consultations will not only provide theoretical knowledge but also help participants understand how to apply it in their daily operations,' emphasized company representatives.
In the challenging and dynamic environment in which Ukrainian electricity producers currently operate, planning mistakes or misunderstandings of market mechanisms can result in substantial financial losses. This is especially true for the balancing market, where accuracy in forecasting and sound operational decisions are critical for stable functioning. The Market Operator has highlighted the importance of these aspects, noting that market participants must be well-informed about all nuances to avoid negative consequences.
According to the course program, participants will gain insights into the operational rules of electricity market segments, the logic of pricing, and schedule formation. The course will also provide a step-by-step explanation of how the balancing market operates, practical tools for minimizing imbalances, analysis of real-life situations, and action algorithms for complex cases. Participants will be able to understand the processes of providing and executing commands on the balancing market, which is vital for effective operation in this sector.
It is worth noting that in 2024, the Market Operator launched an educational and social program aimed at increasing awareness of electricity market operations. As of mid-March 2026, nearly 800 individuals have completed the program, and the support provided to the Armed Forces of Ukraine through its implementation has exceeded 7 million hryvnias. This program is conducted in the format of a professional intensive course that encompasses both theoretical knowledge and practical cases.
The program includes several packages, among which are: 'Market Model' - a basic course for understanding the logic of the energy system's functioning and pricing principles; 'Green+' - dedicated to the work of producers with renewable energy sources and conditions for electricity sales; 'Distributed Generation' - focusing on the development of local generation and the participation of small producers in the market; and 'Balancing Market and Producers' - a detailed course on market opportunities for producers and system balancing principles.
On March 31, as part of this program, the course 'Distributed Generation' was held, confirming the active efforts of the Market Operator in enhancing awareness among electricity market participants.
