In April this year, Ukraine is set to welcome a significant American delegation, including U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump. This information was confirmed by Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in an interview published on April 4 by Bloomberg.
According to Budanov, the U.S. delegation is expected to arrive in Ukraine shortly after Orthodox Easter, which is celebrated on April 12 this year. He also mentioned that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham may join the team, highlighting the importance of the visit.
Interestingly, Witkoff and Kushner have previously visited Russia multiple times to hold negotiations with Kremlin President Vladimir Putin, but their visit to Ukraine will mark the first of its kind. This could indicate a new phase in U.S.-Ukraine relations and an effort to intensify diplomatic efforts in the region.
Bloomberg, citing informed sources, noted that the trip by Witkoff and Kushner to Ukraine is indeed being discussed, but has yet to receive official confirmation. This has sparked interest among experts and politicians, as the visit of such high-ranking officials could significantly impact the situation in Ukraine.
Kyrylo Budanov expressed hope that following the American delegation's visit, Kyiv would be able to secure more robust security guarantees. 'We have long defined what we want. I believe this will be realized in the near future,' he stated, emphasizing the significance of this visit for Ukraine.
Furthermore, Budanov stressed, 'What comes next is another question. But regarding security guarantees, we have definitely made progress — we have already moved forward.' This indicates that Ukraine is actively working to strengthen its position in international politics, especially in the context of security.
It is also worth noting that Budanov reported receiving a request from foreign allies to cease airstrikes on Russian oil refineries. This request has become relevant against the backdrop of rising global oil and fuel prices caused by the war with Iran. 'We will respond diplomatically. We are receiving certain signals in this regard,' Budanov said, without disclosing details, but suggested that the conflict in the Persian Gulf could 'end soon.'
Recall that on April 3, Kyrylo Budanov stated at a meeting of the CEO Club Ukraine that the process of peace negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. is ongoing but is 'extremely complicated.' This underscores the tension of the situation and the complexity of diplomatic efforts being made at various levels.
On April 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also participated in negotiations with U.S. representatives, which took place in video format. The Ukrainian side was represented by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, while the American side was represented by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. These negotiations reflect Ukraine's active involvement in international affairs and its desire for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Thus, the visit of the American delegation to Ukraine could become an important step in strengthening bilateral relations and ensuring security in the region.
