Nibulon Expands River Transport Geography on the Danube, Opens Route Through Moldova Ports
Nibulon LLC, a leading operator in Ukraine's grain market, has announced an expansion of its river transport activities on the Danube by opening a new logistics route that includes ports in Moldova.
Nibulon LLC, one of the foremost operators in Ukraine's grain market, has reported a significant expansion of its river transport operations on the Danube River. The company has launched a new logistics route that incorporates Moldovan ports, greatly enhancing the capacity for cargo transportation in this region. This information was shared on the company's official Facebook page.
According to the announcement, following its entry into the markets of the Middle and Upper Danube in 2025, Nibulon has implemented a new route that involves Moldovan ports. The first operation under this route was a voyage from Izmail (Ukraine) to Galați (Romania), during which 3,600 tons of metallurgical slag were transported. This event marks a significant milestone for the company, emphasizing its ability to adapt to new market conditions.
After unloading in Galați, the vessel continued its journey to the port of Giurgiulești in Moldova, where it loaded 5,000 tons of rapeseed for subsequent transportation to the Romanian port of Constanța. Consequently, the total volume of cargo transported on this route exceeded 8,600 tons, demonstrating the efficiency of the new logistics scheme.
Furthermore, Nibulon has also developed a bilateral logistics scheme that involves the delivery of grain from Izmail to Bulgarian ports, followed by the loading of mineral fertilizers in Serbia for transport to Moldova. This solution allows the company to minimize the number of empty voyages, which in turn enhances fleet utilization and reduces costs.
By the end of 2025, Nibulon had transported over 110,000 tons of cargo via river transport. The company's fleet enables the transportation of various types of goods, including agricultural products, fertilizers, slag, and metal, while also allowing for route adjustments based on market needs.
Prior to the onset of the war, Nibulon managed 82,000 hectares of land across 12 regions of Ukraine and exported agricultural products to over 70 countries worldwide. In 2021, the company achieved a record export volume of 5.64 million tons of agricultural products, marking the highest figure in its history. However, following the start of the war, the company was compelled to relocate its headquarters from Mykolaiv to Kyiv, presenting challenges for its ongoing operations.
In addition to its 23 elevator complexes, Nibulon possesses its own road and rail transport capabilities, as well as a fleet built at its own shipyard. This fleet continues to carry out river transport even during wartime, showcasing the company's resilience and adaptability to new conditions.
Moreover, Nibulon is actively developing its humanitarian demining division, which contributes to restoring safety on leased lands and assists Ukraine's agricultural sector. The company is a certified operator of mine action, underscoring its commitment to safety and responsibility in the region.
