Egg Prices Surge: Inflation in March Reached 1.7%

The State Statistics Service of Ukraine has released data indicating that inflation in March 2026 stood at 1.7% compared to February, with an annual inflation rate of 7.9%.

The State Statistics Service of Ukraine has published new figures regarding consumer market inflation for March 2026, revealing that inflation reached 1.7% in comparison to February, while the annual inflation rate was recorded at 7.9%. The core inflation for the same period was 1.5% compared to February and 7.1% compared to March 2025. These statistics highlight a continuing trend of rising prices in Ukraine, raising concerns among the population.

According to the information provided by the State Statistics Service, food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 1.3% in March 2026. The most significant rise was seen in egg prices, which soared by 7.7%, translating to an annual increase of 20.1%. This surge has sparked outrage among consumers, as eggs are a staple in the diet of many Ukrainians. Additionally, prices for processed grain products, sunflower oil, fruits, bread, fish and fish products, beef, vegetables, and non-alcoholic beverages rose between 0.8% and 4.8%. Conversely, some products, including sugar, pasta, rice, pork, poultry, and butter, experienced slight price decreases ranging from 1.0% to 0.1%.

It is also noteworthy that prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 1.1%, primarily due to a 1.3% rise in the cost of tobacco products. This could indicate a broader trend of increasing prices for non-essential goods, which remain important for many consumers.

Clothing and footwear also saw significant price hikes, with clothing prices rising by 12.0% and footwear by 11.8%. This increase may be attributed to higher production and import costs, as well as a growing demand for these items in Ukraine.

In the transportation sector, prices rose by 6.4%, mainly due to a 13.2% increase in fuel and lubricants (with an annual increase of 23.4%). The cost of travel on railway and road passenger transport also increased by 8.2% and 6.0%, respectively. This rise in transportation costs could negatively impact the mobility of the population and the overall standard of living.

Furthermore, in the communications sector, prices rose by 2.5%, largely due to a 3.8% increase in mobile communication tariffs. This may also reflect a general trend of rising costs for communication services.

It is important to recall that in February 2026, inflation in Ukraine was recorded at 1% compared to the previous month and 7.6% on an annual basis. These figures suggest that inflationary processes in Ukraine continue to remain at a high level, causing concern among the population and economists alike.
