National Bank Allocates Over 7 Billion Hryvnias for Defense Needs in March

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) continues to actively support the country's defense capabilities by transferring significant funds for the needs of the Defense Forces. In March 2026, the NBU allocated over 7 billion hryvnias, as reported by the bank's press service.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) is playing a crucial role in bolstering the nation's defense capabilities amid ongoing conflict, having transferred substantial amounts to support the Defense Forces. According to a statement from the NBU's press service, in March 2026, the bank allocated over 7 billion hryvnias for defense purposes. This amount is part of the overall financing that the bank has provided since the onset of the full-scale invasion, which began on February 24, 2022.

As per the information provided by the NBU, nearly 151.9 billion hryvnias have been transferred to a special account dedicated to supporting Ukraine's defense since the start of the war against Russian aggression. As of April 1, 2026, the balance in this account stood at over 4.4 billion hryvnias. In the past month alone, the special account received 233.9 million hryvnias, indicating strong support from both citizens and businesses.

In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, approximately 155.3 billion hryvnias have been deposited into the special account. These funds have come not only from Ukrainian citizens and businesses but also from the international community, including countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, France, Canada, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Lithuania, and many others.

Specifically, over 133 billion hryvnias in foreign currency equivalents have been received from abroad, including U.S. dollars, euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars, Chinese yuan, Japanese yen, Swiss francs, Polish zlotys, and Australian dollars. This demonstrates significant international support for Ukraine in its fight for independence and territorial integrity.

It is noteworthy that in February 2026, the National Bank of Ukraine also directed nearly 20.3 billion hryvnias from the special account for defense needs. These actions reflect the NBU's ongoing commitment to support the state's efforts in ensuring defense capability and protecting the country.
