Member of Parliament Suspected of Illegal Enrichment Exceeding 12.7 Million UAH

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) have announced the exposure of a member of the ninth convocation of Parliament for illegal enrichment amounting to over 12.7 million UAH.

On Monday, April 6, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) along with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) revealed that they have uncovered a case involving a member of the ninth convocation of Parliament, who is suspected of illegal enrichment exceeding 12.7 million hryvnias. This significant announcement was made public by the SAP press service.

While the SAP has not disclosed the name of the implicated parliamentarian, sources from the publication Babel have identified the individual as Oleksandr Kachnyi, a representative of the political party 'Platform for Life and Peace.' It has been established that between 2020 and 2021, Kachnyi acquired assets whose value substantially exceeded his legal income.

Among the assets under investigation is an apartment located in the center of Kyiv, covering an area of 132.6 square meters, valued at 5.632 million hryvnias. Additionally, the deputy reportedly spent 5.656 million hryvnias on luxury renovations and furnishing of this apartment. Kachnyi also owns a cottage and a plot of land in the resort village of Koblevo, with a total value of 1.694 million hryvnias.

The investigation has revealed that despite the property being fictitiously registered in the name of an acquaintance, the deputy has been residing in the Kyiv apartment since December 2021, personally overseeing all renovation work and paying for it in cash. This behavior suggests an attempt to conceal actual ownership and sources of income.

According to the SAP, Oleksandr Kachnyi's actions are classified under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which stipulates penalties for illegal enrichment. In January 2026, SAP head Oleksandr Klymenko announced that 41 current members of the ninth convocation of the Verkhovna Rada have received suspicions regarding corruption crimes.

It is worth noting that since the establishment of anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine a decade ago, suspicions of corruption crimes have been raised against 79 former and current parliamentarians. This figure highlights systemic issues within Ukrainian politics and underscores the ongoing need for a robust fight against corruption at all levels.
