Naftogaz Aims to Implement Global Industry Standards in Ukraine in Collaboration with API

Naftogaz Group has taken a significant step towards modernizing Ukraine's oil and gas sector by signing a memorandum of cooperation with the American Petroleum Institute (API). This agreement aims to expand the application of recognized global standards and practices within the industry.

The Naftogaz Group has made a pivotal move in the direction of modernizing the Ukrainian oil and gas industry by signing a memorandum of cooperation with the American Petroleum Institute (API). This document is designed to broaden the application of globally recognized standards and practices in the oil and gas sector, as well as facilitate their implementation in Ukraine. The signing of the memorandum took place during the prestigious CERAWeek 2026 conference, which served as a platform for discussing pressing energy issues.

As reported by Naftogaz of Ukraine on Friday, this memorandum represents an important step towards integrating global standards into Ukrainian practices. The Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz Ukraine, Serhiy Koretskyi, emphasized that the integration of global standards pertains not only to technical requirements but is also a matter of enhancing quality, safety, and efficiency across the entire industry. This indicates the company's intention to adopt international norms that could significantly improve the operations of the domestic oil and gas sector.

Serhiy Koretskyi further noted that collaboration with API provides Ukrainian specialists with the opportunity to gain in-depth understanding of leading industry practices and actively participate in the development of global standards. This opens new horizons for the professional development of Ukrainian experts, who will be able to implement new knowledge and skills in their work.

The company explained that the memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation in critical areas such as standardization, certification, and technical exchange. API standards, which have over a century of experience in the oil and gas sector, are widely recognized internationally. This will allow Ukraine not only to improve its own processes but also to become part of the global energy community.

Dustin Meyer, Senior Vice President for Policy, Economics, and Regulatory Affairs at API, also expressed his views on the significance of this collaboration. He highlighted that the partnership with Naftogaz reflects the enduring importance of global standards in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient development of energy. 'With the expansion of application and encouragement of participation in the development of API standards, such collaboration helps to strengthen energy security and infrastructure in Ukraine,' he emphasized.

Key areas of cooperation outlined in the memorandum include enabling Naftogaz Group experts to study and apply API standards, supporting the exchange of information regarding current standards, certifications, and technologies, as well as expanding the use of advanced industry practices. This creates conditions for more effective operations in the oil and gas sector in Ukraine and enhances its competitiveness in the international market.

Moreover, the memorandum anticipates the involvement of Naftogaz specialists in the development of API standards, allowing Ukraine not only to implement but also to shape international norms governing the oil and gas sector. Thus, Ukraine has the opportunity to become an active participant in the global energy process, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the development of the domestic economy.
