NABU: Former Top Officials of State Food and Grain Corporation Involved in 776 Million UAH Grain Fraud

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), in collaboration with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), has announced the exposure of a large-scale corruption scheme related to the embezzlement of grain from the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine (SFGCU). This information was disclosed on NABU's official Telegram channel on Thursday, indicating that the organized criminal group included former high-ranking officials of the state corporation as well as representatives from a foreign company.

According to NABU's findings, in 2021, the management of SFGCU entered into four foreign economic contracts for the supply of feed corn with a non-resident company. It is crucial to note that the terms of these contracts stipulated 100% payment for the goods before the transfer of ownership rights. However, as a result of abuses, the original bills of lading for the cargo ended up in the hands of the purchasing company, which laid the groundwork for subsequent fraudulent activities.

This situation enabled the seamless unloading of vessels and the disposal of grain that had not actually been paid for. Consequently, the state corporation suffered significant financial losses. To conceal the facts of the abuses and create an illusion of control over the assets, copies of the bills of lading containing forged signatures and seals were retained within SFGCU.

As a result of these actions, according to NABU, the state corporation lost nearly 106,000 tons of grain, valued at 776 million UAH. This revelation stands as further evidence of the extensive corruption schemes that exist within Ukraine's state structures and underscores the necessity for continued efforts in combating corruption within the country.

It is worth noting that SFGCU is a key player in Ukraine's grain market, and such abuses could have serious repercussions not only for the state corporation but also for the agricultural sector as a whole. Reports indicate that NABU is continuing its investigation into this case, and it is possible that new suspicions regarding other individuals involved in this corruption scheme will be announced in the near future.
