The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have concluded their pre-trial investigation into Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the 'Fatherland' faction, regarding the alleged offering of improper benefits to members of parliament.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have completed their pre-trial investigation into Yulia Tymoshenko, the head of the 'Fatherland' faction, concerning allegations of offering improper benefits to members of parliament. According to Ukrinform, the investigation revealed that in December 2025, despite the exposure of facts regarding bribes received by parliamentarians, the suspect began negotiations with certain lawmakers to establish a system of rewards for loyal voting.

The materials of the case indicate that a sustainable cooperation mechanism was discussed, which planned to pay money in advance. The members of parliament were to follow instructions regarding voting, which included both support and opposition to specific bills, as well as the possibility of abstaining or not participating in votes. According to the investigation, this mechanism aimed to ensure control over voting in parliament.

In January 2026, faction leaders reported suspicions against Yulia Tymoshenko. On January 14, 2026, SAP and NABU officially announced their suspicions against the leader of 'Fatherland' for providing improper benefits to members of parliament. The High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) on January 21 chose a preventive measure for her in the form of bail set at 33 million hryvnias, which was fully paid.

It is noteworthy that on January 21, VAKS also decided to seize some of Tymoshenko's property, but not all of it. The court denied the prosecution's request to impose a seizure on funds held in one of Tymoshenko's accounts. Additionally, the court decided to seize certain assets belonging to the husband of the parliament member, Oleksandr Tymoshenko, including a Toyota Land Cruiser 200, an Audi A8, and two garages in Dnipro.

On February 16, the Appellate Chamber of VAKS partially overturned the first-instance decision regarding the seizure of Tymoshenko's property, which sparked discussions among experts and the public. This decision marked an important stage in a case that has attracted the attention of not only Ukrainian but also international observers of anti-corruption processes in Ukraine.

Corruption-related cases remain one of the most pressing issues in Ukraine, and this case is no exception. It underscores the importance of combating corruption at all levels of government and the necessity for transparency in the activities of public officials. Society is awaiting further investigations and results that could impact the political situation in the country.
