A Series of Cultural and Artistic Events to Take Place in Kyiv for Easter
The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has announced a variety of cultural and artistic events in Kyiv for Easter, creating a festive atmosphere filled with music, community, and tradition.
According to Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has unveiled plans for a series of cultural and artistic events in Kyiv to celebrate Easter. This year, for the third time, the majestic St. Sophia Cathedral and its surrounding grounds will resonate with spring songs, round dances, cantatas, psalms, spiritual hymns, and choral music, fostering an atmosphere of celebration and unity.
One of the key highlights of the celebration will be a communal feast held in the garden of the reserve. This event aims to bring together all participants and guests, providing an opportunity for communication and sharing experiences. Children will also be included in the festivities, with a designated area for games and activities involving Easter eggs, as well as an educational project titled 'Know Your Ukraine,' designed to help young ones gain a deeper understanding of Ukrainian culture.
Additionally, folk artisans will showcase handmade Ukrainian traditions, allowing visitors to explore the arts and crafts that have been passed down through generations. The program of events will kick off at 6:00 AM with a festive service in the Refectory Church, where from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the traditional blessing of Easter baskets will take place, an important ritual for many Ukrainians.
The program also includes a folk arts fair and an Easter festive bell ringing at the 17th-century St. Sophia Bell Tower, which will add a sense of solemnity to the celebration. Attendees will have the chance to participate in an Easter ritual celebrating newlywed couples, which will be another vibrant moment of the holiday.
Throughout the event, a space dedicated to the memory of fallen fighters for Ukraine, titled 'Easter Bread for Heroes,' will be available. A charity collection will also be organized for the Blood Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and initiatives supporting the Ukrainian military. The Ministry of Culture emphasized that Easter at St. Sophia Kyivska represents a revival of ancient traditions in the historical and cultural heart of Kyiv, made possible through a collaborative initiative between the National Preserve 'St. Sophia Kyivska' and the National Center for Folk Culture 'Ivan Honchar Museum,' in partnership with the 'Origins' project from the Zagoriy Foundation.
Events will take place at the address: Kyiv, Volodymyrska St., 24. Meanwhile, on April 12, the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine will host an event titled 'Easter Glade.' Visitors will have a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Easter in accordance with Ukrainian folk traditions, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity.
On this day, the Singing Field will echo with cheerful spring songs performed by folk groups, adding a special color to the celebration. Guests will be able to participate in traditional Easter games, lively contests, active games, and round dances. Engaging activities and entertainment will be organized for children, making the holiday even more unforgettable.
The location for this event is Kyiv, Akdemika Tronka St., 1. On the same day at 6:00 PM, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine will host an Easter organ concert. Organizers note that 'Easter in the European musical tradition is closely linked to the sound of the organ. Its timbre fills the sacred space with solemnity and light, and the repertoire created for this instrument preserves the memory of centuries of Easter services and festive concerts.'
The concert will feature vibrant soloists from the National House of Music, Valeria Balakhovska and Maksym Sydorenko, who will present a rich repertoire including works by Bach, Haydn, Handel, Wagner, Liszt, Dubois, and other composers. The concert program reveals the richness of organ sound while simultaneously referencing the Easter theme, which combines the memory of the Passion events with a sense of bright celebration.
The concert will take place at the address: Kyiv, Volodymyrska Hill, 2. As reported by Ukrinform, on Easter in Ukraine, the police will operate in an enhanced mode and may conduct selective checks to prevent provocations. Therefore, organizers urge all participants to maintain order and enjoy the holiday in a peaceful setting.
