Plans to Use Mine Water for Public Supply in Occupied Donetsk Region Raise Concerns
The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has highlighted a new initiative from the occupying authorities in Donetsk regarding water supply issues, specifically the intention to use mine water for public consumption.
In a statement published on Telegram, the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has drawn attention to a recent initiative by representatives of the occupying authorities in Donetsk, which pertains to addressing the water supply problem. Specifically, Andriy Chertkov, the so-called 'First Deputy Prime Minister' of the self-proclaimed 'DPR', announced plans to utilize mine water to provide water to the local population.
This announcement has raised concerns among experts, as instead of seeking systematic and effective solutions to the chronic water shortage, the occupiers are once again proposing a dubious initiative. The mine water that is planned for use contains harmful components such as heavy metals, salts, bacterial impurities, and in some cases, even radioactive elements. While there are theoretical methods for purifying such water, the process is extremely expensive and requires significant effort.
The CCD points out that similar 'experimental solutions' for establishing water supply have been voiced multiple times by the occupying authorities, yet none of these ideas have been implemented. The reasons for this lie in the high costs and the need to involve experts to carry out such projects, which it appears the occupiers either cannot or do not wish to provide.
“Thus, the occupying administration simulates vigorous activity to maintain their positions and access to financial flows from Moscow. Meanwhile, the real problems of residents in temporarily occupied territories remain unresolved,” emphasizes the CCD in its statement.
It is worth noting that at the end of March this year, Denis Pushilin, the leader of the terrorist organization 'DPR', effectively acknowledged his inability to restore water supply for residents in territories occupied by Russia. This highlights the serious issues faced by the region's inhabitants and underscores the inaction of the occupying authorities in addressing urgent matters.
In this context, the Center for Countering Disinformation urges the public to focus on the real problems faced by residents of temporarily occupied territories and not to fall for the manipulations of the occupying administration. It is crucial to understand that initiatives like the use of mine water could have serious health consequences for the population.
