Two Men Arrested in Sumy Region for Stealing Military Vehicles and Drone Defense Equipment

Law enforcement officials in the Sumy region have apprehended two individuals linked to the theft of military vehicles and equipment intended for protecting Ukrainian airspace from Russian drones.

In a significant operation, law enforcement authorities in the Sumy region have arrested two men who were involved in the theft of military vehicles and equipment designed to safeguard Ukraine's skies from Russian drones. This information was confirmed by the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police and the Sumy regional police.

According to police reports, a series of thefts were documented, during which the perpetrators not only stole vehicles but also military gear, fuel canisters, and equipment used for defending Ukraine's airspace against hostile drones. These actions pose a particularly grave threat in wartime conditions, as the stolen property could potentially be used against Ukrainian military forces.

The criminals operated with premeditation, specifically targeting vehicles owned by military personnel. After stealing the vehicles, they also took any possessions found within them. Some of the stolen items were sold on the black market, while others, including fuel, were kept for their own use.

The arrest of the two suspects was executed with the tactical support of the KORD special forces. Law enforcement conducted searches at the residences of the suspects, during which physical evidence was uncovered that confirmed their involvement in the crimes. The seized property will be handed over to the military to meet the needs of Ukraine's defenders.

During the commission of their crimes, the suspects frequently changed license plates on the vehicles they used, complicating their detection. However, thanks to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement, investigators were able to track down the criminals.

Under Ukrainian law, the suspects have been charged with theft during a state of war, as well as illegal seizure of a vehicle by a group of individuals. They have already been informed of their suspicion regarding criminal offenses as outlined in part 4 of Article 185 (theft) and part 2 of Article 289 (illegal seizure of a vehicle) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.

This case underscores the importance of combating criminal elements attempting to exploit the situation in the country and highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety of military personnel and civilians amid ongoing conflict.
