Over ₴92 Million Allocated for Drones and Electronic Warfare Equipment in Sumy Region
The Sumy region has allocated over ₴92 million from the regional budget to implement a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing the region's defense capabilities and security through 2026-2030.
In the Sumy region, over ₴92 million has been allocated from the regional budget for the implementation of the Comprehensive Regional Program "Enhancing the Defense Capability and Security of Sumy Region for 2026–2030." This information was shared by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleg Grygorov, on his Telegram channel, as reported by the Ukrinform news agency.
Grygorov noted that of these funds, more than ₴5.1 million was spent on the acquisition of electronic warfare equipment, approximately ₴14.9 million on unmanned aerial vehicles, over ₴3.3 million on automotive technology and robotic complexes, as well as ₴6.9 million on specialized equipment. These investments are part of a broader initiative aimed at bolstering the defense capabilities of the region.
According to Grygorov, a total of ₴110 million has been planned in the Sumy budget for these purposes. "The main focus is on air defense, modern technology, and ensuring that units are equipped with the necessary resources," he emphasized, highlighting the importance of these purchases for the region's security.
Additionally, in April of this year, another ₴60 million is expected to be allocated in Sumy for anti-drone protection of roads. This indicates the active efforts of local authorities to ensure the safety of transport routes and the population in the face of contemporary threats.
Grygorov also reported that equipment worth ₴137 million has already been transferred to security and defense forces in 2026 through the special fund UNITED24. This set includes control stations, interceptor drones, and other essential tools that enhance the effectiveness of defensive measures.
It was previously noted that the Comprehensive Regional Program "Enhancing the Defense Capability and Security of Sumy Region for 2026–2030" was developed for the systematic support of military units operating along the border. This program not only includes direct purchases of equipment but also the construction of fortifications and the development of early threat detection systems. The Regional Military Administration has indicated that the program's funding may be adjusted based on the revenue received by the regional budget and the needs of military command.
The Sumy region has the longest border line with the Russian Federation, exceeding 560 kilometers. This makes the area vulnerable to attacks, particularly from guided aerial bombs and drones of the Shahed type, which regularly inflict damage on the population and infrastructure.
As previously reported, Russian forces launched 95 strikes on the territory of Sumy in a single day, further underscoring the necessity of enhancing defensive measures in the region. In this context, the active actions of the regional administration regarding the procurement of modern equipment and protective means are critically important for ensuring the safety of local residents.
