Official in Odesa Region Arrested for Demanding Bribe to Secure Job Position

In a significant crackdown on corruption, law enforcement agencies in the Odesa region have uncovered and arrested an official from the district territorial center for recruitment and social support (TCK and SP). This individual was reportedly demanding a bribe of $10,000 for the promise of securing a position within the TCK, as well as for closing a case related to unauthorized desertion from military service. This information was disclosed by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the head of a group within one of the departments of the TCK and SP in Odesa offered a potential candidate for a vacant position the assurance of their appointment for the sum of $10,000. This included providing the necessary written consent. Additionally, the official promised to resolve issues with law enforcement regarding the closure of the case concerning unauthorized desertion. Should the candidate refuse, the official threatened to inform law enforcement about the situation, which could lead to serious complications regarding the candidate's return to military service.

Law enforcement officials managed to document the process of money transfer, which occurred in parts. This documentation served as the basis for conducting an operation to arrest the official during the receipt of the funds. The man was apprehended on-site and subsequently arrested, with the possibility of bail set at 998,400 hryvnias.

The official is suspected of committing a crime as stipulated in part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to the receipt of bribes for influencing decision-making by public officials, combined with extortion. This incident has sparked outrage among the public and underscored the importance of combating corruption within government structures, especially in the context of ongoing war conditions.
