Ukrainian Stars to Shine at the Black Sea Cup Boxing Tournament

During a press conference at Ukrinform, Oleksandr Hordiienko, Vice President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine and head of the Odesa regional boxing federation, shared insights regarding the format and features of the revived Black Sea Cup boxing tournament. This iconic event aims to draw attention to boxing in Ukraine and is scheduled for July this year in a central area of Odesa.

Hordiienko emphasized that the tournament will feature renowned Ukrainian boxers, including members of the national team. “The level of participants will not be lower than that of a sports master. In each weight category, there will be one pair competing,” he stressed, highlighting the high level of competitiveness that will be showcased in the ring.

The tournament will be dedicated to the defenders of the country, underlining the patriotic spirit of the organizers. “We expect a large number of spectators since the competitions will take place outdoors. We will do everything possible to attract maximum attention to the Cup,” Hordiienko added. He also expressed hope that in the coming years, not only Ukrainian boxers but also athletes from other countries would step into the ring, as there is already a noticeable interest from foreign boxing federations.

Support for the revival of the Black Sea Cup has been expressed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Odesa authorities, and other organizations. Taras Lamakh, Vice President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU), emphasized the importance of this support for the successful organization of the event. “The organization and conduct of the competitions in Odesa will be carried out by the FBU and funded by sponsors,” he noted, stressing the significance of financial backing for the realization of this project.
