The planting campaign in the Kirovohrad region commenced on March 23 this year, 11 days later than in the previous year, according to Valeria Furmanova, the director of the agricultural development department of the Kirovohrad regional military administration.

This year's planting campaign in the Kirovohrad region started on March 23, which is 11 days later than last year. Valeria Furmanova, the director of the agricultural development department of the Kirovohrad regional military administration, announced this during a briefing organized to highlight the situation in the region's agricultural sector.

Furmanova noted that favorable conditions for sowing early grains and legumes were observed at the end of the second and the beginning of the third decade of March. However, due to increased soil moisture, farmers were only able to begin planting at the end of March.

According to forecasts, early grains and legumes are planned to be sown on an area of 62.9 thousand hectares. This is 6.3 thousand hectares less than in 2025. Specifically, it is anticipated that the area under spring barley will be 35.6 thousand hectares, under peas – 23.0 thousand hectares, under spring wheat – 4.1 thousand hectares, and under oats – 0.2 thousand hectares.

As of today, the Kirovohrad region has reached last year's level in terms of planting pace. According to operational data, all categories of farms have already sown early spring grains and legumes on an area of 56.1 thousand hectares, which constitutes 89% of the projected area (55.9 thousand hectares on the same date last year). Among the sown crops are 33.5 thousand hectares of spring barley, 18.6 thousand hectares of peas, and 4.0 thousand hectares of spring wheat.

Some farms have already managed to sow chickpeas, mustard, flax, and coriander, indicating the activity of farmers in the region. Additionally, vegetable crops have been planted on an area of 3.8 thousand hectares (21% of the forecast), and potato planting has been conducted on 3.1 thousand hectares, which constitutes 9% of the forecast.

Overall, it is planned to sow spring grains on an area of 356.3 thousand hectares this spring. Among them are early grains and legumes – 62.9 thousand hectares; corn for grain – 284.9 thousand hectares; millet – 1.3 thousand hectares; buckwheat – 0.7 thousand hectares; sunflower – 647.8 thousand hectares; sugar beets – 6.6 thousand hectares; soybeans – 80.5 thousand hectares; and vegetables and melons – 20.8 thousand hectares. Potato planting is planned on 34.5 thousand hectares, and fodder crops are to be sown on 36.1 thousand hectares.
