Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Launches 'Radio' to Comment on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Statements
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to launch a 'radio' that will comment on any statements made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. This announcement was made by spokesperson Georgiy Tikhy on Thursday, April 2.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken a significant step by launching a dedicated 'radio' service aimed at addressing the frequent and often absurd statements made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Spokesperson Georgiy Tikhy revealed this initiative during a press briefing on Thursday, April 2, emphasizing the need for a consistent response to the Hungarian government's rhetoric.
Tikhy expressed the frustration of the Ukrainian side, stating, "Hungarian authorities make absurd statements about Ukraine on a daily basis. We are tired of responding to each of them separately, and therefore we decided to define our position in the form of a radio that operates 24/7." This continuous broadcasting aims to provide clarity and consistency in Ukraine's stance regarding the ongoing discourse from Hungary.
The initiative involves an audio recording titled "Ukrainian Radio Hungary," which plays a repetitive message rejecting the manipulations concerning Ukraine that are frequently propagated by Orban and his administration. The recording asserts, "We reject the manipulations regarding Ukraine that Prime Minister Orban and his team regularly engage in. We condemn his persistent attempts to involve Ukraine in his internal politics or electoral campaign. Ukraine has never wished and does not wish harm to neighboring Hungary. We urge all Hungarians not to trust the toxic anti-Ukrainian propaganda that daily emanates from officials' mouths. We are destined to be good neighbors, members of the EU and NATO, not part of the Russian world. Thank you for listening to Ukrainian Radio Hungary."
Georgiy Tikhy further elaborated that this initiative serves to express the Ministry's "official position on any case" related to the statements made by Viktor Orban and other Hungarian officials. This decision comes as a direct response to the ongoing attempts by the Hungarian authorities to manipulate information regarding Ukraine.
It is important to note that parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 12, 2026. According to Reuters, the opposition party led by Peter Madjar has increased its lead over the ruling Fidesz party of Prime Minister Orban ahead of the parliamentary elections, indicating potential shifts in the political landscape of Hungary.
Additionally, on March 21, The Washington Post reported that Russian intelligence allegedly planned to stage an assassination attempt on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to enhance his chances of winning the parliamentary elections. However, Orban himself denied this information, labeling it as a fabrication.
Thus, the situation surrounding Hungarian-Ukrainian relations remains tense, and new initiatives from Ukraine, such as the "Ukrainian Radio Hungary," reflect the official Kyiv's commitment to countering misinformation and manipulations that could influence public opinion in Hungary.
