Moldova Officially Exits the Commonwealth of Independent States

The Republic of Moldova has taken a significant step in its foreign policy by officially deciding to withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This decision was confirmed during a parliamentary session on Thursday, April 2.

The Republic of Moldova has made a significant move in its foreign policy direction by officially deciding to withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This decision was confirmed during a parliamentary session held on Thursday, April 2, where deputies voted in favor of denouncing the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS, as well as the corresponding Protocol and Statute of the organization.

This information was corroborated by the news portal Deschide.md, which noted that the decision was supported by 60 deputies representing the ruling party PAS, the Democracy at Home party, and several parliamentarians from the Alternative Bloc. This indicates broad political support for this move among government representatives.

The initiative to denounce the agreements was spearheaded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova. The ministry explained that the decision to exit the CIS was made due to violations by the Russian Federation of the fundamental principles of this union, particularly the principle of recognition and mutual respect for territorial integrity and inviolability of borders. Chisinau, for its part, has taken a course towards Euro-integration and membership in the European Union.

It is worth noting that on March 11, the government of the Republic of Moldova had already approved the denunciation of the main CIS documents, marking the first step towards a complete exit from the organization. On March 21, the parliament passed a decision to denounce the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS in its first reading, demonstrating a systematic approach to this issue.

As of today, Moldova has denounced approximately 70 agreements with the CIS. This is being done in the context of aligning national policy and modernizing the legislative and economic framework in accordance with EU standards and norms. Thus, the country is clearly demonstrating its intention to orient itself towards European values and integration into the European community.

Moldova's exit from the CIS is an important step in the context of regional politics and relations with neighboring countries. This decision could significantly impact the future development of relations between Moldova and Russia, as well as the internal politics of the country, as it reflects a desire to strengthen sovereignty and independence.

In this way, Moldova continues to implement its course towards Euro-integration, hoping for support from European partners in its aspirations for development and modernization.
