Ministry of Culture to Enhance Financial Support for Dovzhenko National Film Studio

The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has reported its plans to bolster financial assistance for the Dovzhenko National Film Studio. This decision comes in response to the difficult situation the studio has found itself in as a result of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine. According to information provided by the Ministry's press service, the film studio has suffered significant losses, including a decrease in orders and activity in its film production facilities, leading to the accumulation of debts that hinder its further development and effective operation.

As part of a new government support program for cinema, the Ministry of Culture will allocate funds totaling 29.4 million hryvnias, which will be drawn from the strategic communications and information security program. These financial resources will enable the studio to cover its current expenses for salaries up until January 1, 2026, as well as pay for utilities and energy resources. This, in turn, will allow the studio to direct no less than 90 percent of its own income after paying taxes and fees towards settling the debts that have accrued as of April 1, 2026.

Tetyana Berezhna, the Vice Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of this decision, stating that it aims to ensure the effective operation of the studio under the conditions of martial law in Ukraine. According to her, state support will help stabilize the studio's operations, which is crucial for the proper preservation and study of Ukrainian cinematic heritage, as well as for promoting Ukrainian cinema both domestically and internationally.
