Ministry of Energy Changes Coordination Format for Effective Preparation for Heating Season

The Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, announced significant changes to the coordination format aimed at enhancing the country's readiness for the upcoming heating season.

According to the information agency Ukrinform, Denys Shmyhal made the announcement in a Facebook post, detailing the modifications implemented to ensure a more effective preparation for the heating season. These changes are a direct response to the challenges faced by Ukraine's energy system and were discussed during numerous government meetings.

Shmyhal highlighted that in recent times, 36 meetings have been held, resulting in the adoption of dozens of decisions aimed at stabilizing the energy situation in the country. One of the pivotal steps taken has been the simplification of the procedure for connecting backup equipment to the electrical grid. Now, the connection, review, and approval processes, as well as obtaining technical conditions, will each take only two days, significantly speeding up the overall process.

In addition, the government is taking measures to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure. This includes enhanced air defense systems and the installation of electronic warfare complexes. These initiatives have improved the capabilities to intercept threats, which is a crucial element of the energy system's security. Furthermore, a project is being implemented that involves the engagement of critical infrastructure facilities with mobile fire groups, enabling rapid response to potential threats.

Shmyhal also announced the launch of a new mechanism whereby hourly blackout schedules will not apply to distributed generation that supplies electricity to at least 80% of consumers connected to a single line. This innovation aims to reduce inconveniences for the population and businesses during the heating season.

Moreover, as reported by Ukrinform, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksiy Kuleba, noted that 22 billion hryvnias have been allocated from the budget for priority measures to implement resilience plans in the regions. These funds will be directed towards ensuring the stability of local energy systems and preparing for the winter period.

Thus, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine is undertaking comprehensive measures to ensure the stability of the energy system amid heightened risks associated with the heating season. The changes in the coordination format, the simplification of procedures, and the allocation of significant financial resources represent critical steps towards ensuring the country's energy security.
