Microsoft to Invest $10 Billion in Artificial Intelligence in Japan
Microsoft President Brad Smith announced an ambitious $10 billion investment plan for artificial intelligence in Japan during a meeting with Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi in Tokyo on Friday.
As reported by the Ukrinform news agency, Microsoft President Brad Smith announced an ambitious plan to invest $10 billion in artificial intelligence in Japan during a meeting with Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi, which took place in Tokyo on Friday. This significant sum will be directed towards the development of artificial intelligence in Japan, as well as strengthening collaboration with Japanese companies such as SoftBank Group and Sakura Internet, a cloud computing service provider.
At the beginning of the meeting, which was open to media representatives, Smith emphasized the importance of this investment decision: “We are making the largest investment decision in Japan. We can provide the support that the Japanese economy needs in the future,” he stated, highlighting the strategic significance of this move for the country.
Smith also added that the planned investments will focus not only on technical aspects but also on the development of human resources and strengthening cybersecurity. This indicates Microsoft's intentions not only to implement new technologies but also to ensure their effective use through training specialists and protecting information systems.
In turn, Prime Minister Takaiichi welcomed Microsoft's initiative, noting that such investments could significantly impact the development of the Japanese economy and the technology sector as a whole. She emphasized the importance of collaboration with international technology companies to achieve Japan's innovative goals.
SoftBank, one of Microsoft's partners in this project, is a large investment and technology company that actively engages in the development of new technologies. Sakura Internet, based in Osaka in western Japan, is known as a pioneer in the national internet services industry, making it an important player in this field.
It is worth noting that in 2024, Microsoft had already outlined a two-year investment plan worth $2.9 billion in Japan. This plan includes the modernization of data processing centers necessary for the use of artificial intelligence, as well as support for cloud computing, which are critical elements for the development of technologies in the country.
Furthermore, as reported by Ukrinform, American technology giants such as Nvidia, Amazon, and Microsoft are in negotiations to invest up to $60 billion in the artificial intelligence developer OpenAI. This reflects the growing interest in artificial intelligence technologies and their impact on the global economy.
Thus, Microsoft's investments in Japan not only underscore the importance of artificial intelligence for the future but also open new opportunities for collaboration between international and Japanese companies in this dynamic field.
