Massive Russian Attack Leads to Power Outages in Seven Regions of Ukraine - Ukrenergo
A recent drone assault by Russia has resulted in significant power outages across seven regions of Ukraine, according to the National Energy Company of Ukraine, Ukrenergo.
According to information provided by Ukrinform, the National Energy Company of Ukraine, known as Ukrenergo, has announced serious consequences stemming from a massive drone attack carried out by the enemy on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. As a result of these attacks, which occurred over the past day and into the current one, power outages have been reported for consumers in seven regions: Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Cherkasy, and Odesa. The statement emphasizes that emergency restoration work is ongoing in areas where safety conditions permit.
As of 9:30 AM on Thursday, electricity consumption in Ukraine has decreased by 3.5% compared to the previous day. The primary reason for this decline is attributed to clear weather conditions in most regions, which have enhanced the efficiency of household solar power plants. This, in turn, has led to a reduction in the volume of energy consumption from the overall grid.
In light of the current weather conditions, representatives from Ukrenergo recommend shifting energy-intensive processes to the period of peak solar power generation, which occurs from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. They also urge citizens to limit the use of high-power electrical appliances during the evening hours, particularly from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and to avoid turning on multiple such devices simultaneously.
Furthermore, it is noteworthy that over 14,000 workers from repair crews engaged in restoring critical infrastructure following Russian attacks will receive bonuses of 20,000 hryvnias for February. On April 1, the Ukrainian government allocated 281.3 million hryvnias for these purposes, underscoring the importance of supporting those working to rebuild the country amid wartime conditions.
This situation highlights the serious challenges Ukraine faces in the context of aggression from Russia. Continuous attacks on energy infrastructure threaten not only the country's energy security but also the daily lives of its citizens. Ukrenergo calls on all consumers to adhere to energy-saving recommendations to alleviate the load on the energy system, especially during peak demand periods.
