Ukrainian Skier Victoria Olekh Suspended from Sports Due to Failed Drug Test

Ukrainian skier Victoria Olekh has been suspended from competition following a positive doping test result, sparking significant reactions within the sports community.

Ukrainian skier Victoria Olekh has been suspended from participating in sports competitions due to a positive result from a doping test. The National Anti-Doping Center of Ukraine (NADCU) released a list of athletes who have been disqualified, which included Olekh, causing a considerable stir in the sporting world.

Analysis of Victoria Olekh's samples revealed the presence of the banned substance canrenone. According to information provided by NADCU, the athlete's disqualification began on March 18, 2026, and will last until January 17, 2027. This suspension means that Olekh will be unable to compete for nearly a year, a significant setback that could impact her career substantially.

The 32-year-old Olekh has experience competing at the Olympic Games, including her participation in the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where her best result was a 58th place finish in the individual race. Additionally, she has competed in five World Championships, highlighting her professionalism and dedication to the sport.

Furthermore, the list of athletes facing suspensions also includes Oksana Holub, a Ukrainian rower who won a bronze medal at the European Rowing Championships in 2011 in the eights competition. The 38-year-old athlete was disqualified after acetazolamide was detected in her samples. Holub's disqualification commenced on March 6, 2026, and will continue until July 5, 2027.

This situation is not isolated within the sports world. It was previously reported that German skier Victoria Carl received an 18-month ban for violating anti-doping rules. Carl is an Olympic champion, which underscores the seriousness of the doping problem in sports.

It is also worth noting that recently, two legendary Ukrainian biathletes officially announced their retirement, generating significant reactions within the sports community. This indicates that Ukrainian sports are facing tough times, not only due to external challenges but also due to internal issues such as doping.
