The Lviv National Academic Male Choir 'Dudaryk' performed at Stockholm's oldest church, known as St. Nicholas Church. This concert of Ukrainian spiritual music took place within the framework of the prestigious festival European Festival: Ukrainian Spring 2026. The Lviv Regional Military Administration reported this, as conveyed by the news agency Ukrinform.
The concert program featured works by prominent composers of the Ukrainian sacred tradition, including Mykola Dyletsky, Maksym Berezovsky, Dmytro Bortniansky, Kyrylo Stetsenko, Mykhailo Verbytsky, Hanna Havrylets, and Dmytro Katsal. Additionally, the choir performed traditional liturgical songs that highlighted the depth of Ukrainian spiritual music. As a gesture of gratitude and respect, and in the lead-up to Easter, 'Dudaryk' performed the Swedish Easter hymn 'Jesus Christ is Risen' (in Swedish: 'Jesus Kristus är uppstånden').
Maxym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, emphasized the importance of Ukrainian spiritual music as a component of cultural identity and a powerful tool for cultural diplomacy. 'Such artistic events not only introduce the world to the depth of Ukrainian tradition but also strengthen international support for Ukraine. I thank everyone who contributed to the realization of this project,' he stated during his address.
The concert concluded with the performance of 'Prayer for Ukraine' by Mykola Lysenko, which holds a special place in Ukrainian musical and spiritual tradition and is considered the spiritual anthem of Ukraine. This piece has become a symbol of national unity and patriotism, and its performance in such an important location as St. Nicholas Church marked a significant moment for all those present.
It is worth noting that recently, the Ukrainian male choir Axios from Edmonton won the highest music award in Canada, the Juno Awards, further confirming the high level of Ukrainian musical culture on the international stage.
