China May Influence Iran to Achieve Peace - German Foreign Ministry

The German Foreign Ministry has issued a statement highlighting the possibility of China's influence on Iran in the pursuit of peace in the region. This development follows a telephone conversation between German Foreign Minister Johannes Vadufer and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, as reported by the Ukrinform agency.

In the statement from Germany's foreign policy office, it is emphasized that, given the complex global situation, the relationship between Germany and China, along with their information exchange, remains critically important. Shared concerns regarding the situation in the Middle East, the desire for a swift resolution to the conflict, and the assurance of freedom and security in maritime navigation emerged as key topics of discussion.

The German Foreign Ministry underscored that Iran has exhibited hostile behavior towards its neighbors for decades, and its missile and nuclear programs pose a threat to peace and security in the region. This reality has raised alarms within the international community, particularly in Germany and China.

A significant part of the conversation involved the assertion that China could play a constructive role in influencing Iran, facilitating negotiations and cessation of hostilities against Gulf states. This highlights the shared responsibility of both nations for regional stability.

Moreover, representatives from Germany and China expressed a unified stance on ensuring freedom of navigation. They emphasized that both countries are committed to restoring free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that no single nation should control maritime routes or impose fees for their passage.

These statements gain particular significance in light of recent events where leaders from 41 nations, during a video call, avoided making hard military commitments to resolve the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. This occurred despite U.S. President Donald Trump's recent escalation of calls for action in this direction.
