Conflict in the Band Boombox: Andriy Khlyvnyuk Responds to Oleg Adzhikaev's Accusations

Andriy Khlyvnyuk, the leader of the Ukrainian band Boombox, has addressed accusations made by songwriter Oleg Adzhikaev regarding copyright infringement and unpaid royalties. Khlyvnyuk emphasized that Adzhikaev has received financial compensation for his contributions to the album 'Secret Code: Rubicon'.

Andriy Khlyvnyuk, the leader of the Ukrainian band Boombox, has not shied away from addressing accusations made by Oleg Adzhikaev, the songwriter behind the album 'Secret Code: Rubicon'. Adzhikaev has alleged violations of copyright and failure to pay royalties. In his statement, Khlyvnyuk underscored that Adzhikaev has been financially compensated for his work and has received author royalties in accordance with the law, as he is a co-author of the music in the mentioned album.

“It turned out to be insufficient, so now he will have to collect his share on his own. Fortunately, the collections and payments can be easily verified, as they have long been made through cashless payment methods. However, casting a shadow on the band’s honest name and calling me a fraud is just ridiculous,” Khlyvnyuk commented on the situation.

Recently, Oleg Adzhikaev, who is the lyricist and sound producer of the album 'Secret Code: Rubicon', claimed that he has not received any clear reporting or appropriate payments for the use of his works. According to him, the songs were created with his direct involvement as a co-author, and they were utilized in releases and commercially successful.

“The irony of the situation is that music is created together, yet when it comes to money, it suddenly becomes difficult to find even basic transparency,” Adzhikaev emphasized, expressing his outrage over the lack of financial reporting.

The album 'Secret Code: Rubicon' was released in 2019 and consists of two parts. In total, it includes 14 songs, with seven tracks in each release. Currently, only four songs from the first part are available on streaming platforms: 'Hold Me', 'Angel', 'Yours 100%' and 'See You'.

Among the unavailable tracks is 'Abyss', featuring popular Ukrainian singer Tina Karol. This composition also appeared on her 2020 album 'Finding My Own'. Tina Karol stated that her team has contractual confirmations regarding the legality of using the work as part of the album, “but our side is waiting for a swift resolution to the conflict between the opponents.”

This situation highlights the importance of transparency in financial matters within the music industry, as well as the necessity for clear communication among all participants in the music creation process. The conflict between Khlyvnyuk and Adzhikaev undoubtedly draws attention not only from the band’s fans but also from the entire Ukrainian music community.
