Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, currently playing for Napoli after his time at Manchester City, recently shared his thoughts on Luka Modric's performance, the 40-year-old midfielder for AC Milan. In an interview with the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, De Bruyne emphasized that Modric is one of the greatest players in his position in the history of football.
Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgian midfielder who previously played for Manchester City and now represents Napoli, recently expressed his admiration for Luka Modric, the 40-year-old midfielder for AC Milan. In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, De Bruyne highlighted that Modric is one of the best players in his position throughout football history.
“[Modric] is a top player! I know him well. We have played against each other many times and communicated. For me, he is one of the best midfielders of all time: of course, it is difficult to compare generations, but he is definitely one of the best of the last 20 years. I think we have met at least 20 times — both at the national team level and in clubs. Now he is with Milan. For me, he is a fantastic player and a wonderful person. And he has a great family,” De Bruyne stated.
De Bruyne also pointed out that while he does not consider himself a close friend of Modric, he has a close relationship with Modric's teammate, Mateo Kovacic. “I wouldn’t say we are friends, but I am friends with Kovacic, and they are very close. We have often crossed paths,” the Belgian added.
Luka Modric, who joined AC Milan as a free agent in the summer of 2025, signed a one-season contract with an option for an additional year. This move marks a new chapter in the career of a player who spent 13 seasons with Real Madrid, where he became a true club legend.
During his time in Madrid, Modric played 597 matches, scored 43 goals, and won 28 trophies, including the coveted Ballon d'Or in 2018. His contribution to the team was undeniable, as he became one of the key players who helped Real Madrid achieve success on the international stage.
This season, Modric became the oldest debutant in Serie A, demonstrating that age is no barrier to maintaining a high level of play. Since the start of the 2025/26 campaign, he has played 32 matches for Milan across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists, which showcases his continued influence on the game.
Interestingly, on April 6, a match in the 31st round of the Italian Championship will take place between Napoli and Milan. The game is set to kick off at 21:45 Kyiv time. Currently, Napoli sits in third place in the standings, trailing Milan by just one point, making this match even more crucial for both teams.
In conclusion, it is worth noting that we recently reported on how Cristiano Ronaldo helped Al-Nassr crush their opponent and get closer to the milestone of 1000 goals, which has also sparked significant interest among football fans.
