Canada Allocates Nearly $40 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine

Canada has taken a significant step in supporting Ukraine by announcing $51.1 million in aid to address urgent humanitarian needs. This decision follows the conclusion of Secretary of State for International Development, Harjit Sajjan's visit to Ukraine, as reported by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Canada has made a crucial commitment to support Ukraine, announcing a substantial allocation of $51.1 million aimed at addressing urgent humanitarian needs. This announcement comes on the heels of Secretary of State for International Development Harjit Sajjan's recent visit to Ukraine, which was confirmed by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his statement, Secretary Sajjan emphasized that these funds will be utilized to provide medical assistance, food, shelter, and to enhance Ukraine's capacity to deliver inclusive public services, along with support for veterans. "Canada stands unwavering in its support for Ukraine, not only during the war with Russia but also in future reconstruction efforts. By working alongside Ukrainian leaders, regional partners in Poland, civil society, and the private sector, we are helping to lay the foundation for a resilient, strong, and inclusive Ukraine," he remarked.

This financial support is part of a broader assistance program that Canada has been providing to Ukraine since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion. Since the beginning of the conflict, Canada has already delivered a diverse array of aid to Ukraine, totaling over $19 billion USD. This funding encompasses not only humanitarian assistance but also military and financial support, positioning Canada as one of Ukraine's largest international partners during this challenging period.

Secretary Sajjan's visit to Ukraine also included discussions on key issues such as supporting the implementation of a regional energy resilience plan. In light of the energy crisis triggered by the war, energy security has become particularly pressing. Canada, with its significant expertise in the energy sector, is prepared to share its knowledge and technology to assist Ukraine in restoring and modernizing its energy infrastructure.

Canada continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting Ukraine, and this funding allocation serves as further confirmation that the international community will not leave Ukraine to fend for itself in its struggle for independence and territorial integrity. Canadian support is vital for meeting the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians affected by the war and for creating conditions conducive to the country's future recovery.

With this assistance, Ukrainians will receive essential resources for survival amid the ongoing conflict, as well as the prospect of long-term support in rebuilding their nation. As a reliable partner, Canada remains dedicated to strengthening ties between the two countries and supporting Ukraine in its pursuit of peace and stability.
