Canada Provides Nearly $40 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine

The Canadian government continues to support Ukraine during challenging times by announcing a humanitarian aid package worth CAD 51.1 million, approximately USD 39 million, aimed at addressing urgent humanitarian needs as well as fostering long-term recovery and reform in the country.

The Canadian government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing challenges by announcing a significant humanitarian aid package totaling CAD 51.1 million. This amount is equivalent to approximately USD 39 million and is intended to meet urgent humanitarian needs while also promoting long-term recovery and reform efforts within the country.

In a statement, Canada's Secretary of State, Randeep Sarai, emphasized that these funds will be directed towards experienced and reliable partners working on the ground in Ukraine. He highlighted that this financial assistance will help address pressing humanitarian needs, particularly in the areas of emergency medical assistance, shelter, water supply, sanitation, and food security.

The announcement from the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the funds will be utilized to strengthen Ukraine's capacity to provide inclusive public services and support veterans. This is a crucial step as it will contribute to improving governance at the national level, which is essential for advancing reforms that align with the requirements for European Union membership.

Canada aims to enhance the accountability of national authorities in the development, implementation, and monitoring of inclusive policies and budgets aimed at revitalizing Ukraine's economy. This initiative will play a vital role in supporting the country in its pursuit of reforms and recovery following difficult times.

It is important to recall that Canada recently extended the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel, allowing Ukrainians the opportunity to live and work in Canada. This decision represents a significant step in supporting Ukrainian citizens seeking safety and new opportunities abroad.

Additionally, Canada has expressed its readiness to collaborate in establishing a Veterans Support Fund in Ukraine, which aims to strengthen the reintegration system for veterans returning to civilian life post-service. This initiative will be a crucial component in supporting those transitioning back into society after military service.

Notably, on February 24, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Canadian government announced a military aid package of CAD 2 billion (approximately USD 1.4 billion) to Ukraine. This move was accompanied by the implementation of new sanctions against the Russian Federation, including measures targeting the so-called 'shadow fleet' and a reduction in the price cap on Russian oil.
