Ukrainian Cabinet Allocates 30 Million Hryvnias to Support Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has approved a significant financial allocation of 29.4 million hryvnias to support the operations of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio, a crucial step towards stabilizing the institution's financial situation amid the ongoing challenges posed by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has made a decisive move by allocating 29.4 million hryvnias to support the operations of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio. This decision is seen as a pivotal step in stabilizing the financial condition of the institution, which has faced severe difficulties due to the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine.

During a press conference, Culture Minister Tetiana Berezhna announced this development, highlighting the challenging circumstances the film studio has been navigating due to the ongoing war. She emphasized that the number of orders has significantly decreased, leading to a marked reduction in activity at the studio's facilities. This downturn has resulted in the accumulation of debts, hindering the institution's ability to grow and fulfill its functions.

In response to this pressing issue, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to redistribute part of the expenditures from the state budget allocated to the Ministry of Culture for the year 2026. Funds that were initially earmarked for a strategic communications and information security program will now be redirected to a state support program for cinema.

According to the new plans, the allocated 29.4 million hryvnias will be utilized to stabilize the operations of the film studio. This funding will cover employee salaries, utility costs, and the gradual repayment of accumulated debts. The Minister noted that this financial support will enable the studio to meet its current expenses.

This decision allows the studio to direct no less than 90% of its own revenues towards repaying debts that were outstanding as of April 1, 2026. “We are strengthening the operations of this institution, which is part of our cultural memory, and ensuring the preservation and study of our cinematic heritage, as well as the development of Ukrainian cinema,” stated Tetiana Berezhna.

In addition to this funding, the Culture Minister also revealed that the government has supported another resolution from the Ministry of Culture, which involves adding 13 nationally significant cultural heritage sites in the Donetsk region to the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine. Among these sites are the St. Nicholas Church in Druzhkivka and the complex of monuments of the Sviatohirsk Holy Assumption Lavra.

Through these actions, the Ukrainian government is demonstrating its commitment to supporting the cultural sector, which has suffered significant losses during the war, and aims to ensure the continued development of Ukrainian cinema and the preservation of cultural heritage.
