Ukrainian Man Extradited from Moldova for Robbery and Serious Bodily Harm
The Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office has successfully initiated the extradition of a Ukrainian citizen from the Republic of Moldova, who was previously convicted of serious crimes including robbery and intentional infliction of severe bodily harm.
The Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office has recently taken significant steps to extradite a Ukrainian national from the Republic of Moldova, who has been held accountable for serious crimes, including repeated robbery and the intentional infliction of severe bodily injuries. This information was confirmed by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform via their Telegram channel.
According to the prosecutor's office, the crimes for which the man was convicted occurred in 2018. In January of that year, he committed a robbery by forcibly snatching a gold bracelet from the wrist of a victim and subsequently fleeing the scene. The stolen property was then utilized at his discretion. Later, in October of the same year, he perpetrated another crime, delivering numerous blows to another man, which resulted in severe bodily injuries.
In December 2019, the court issued a verdict sentencing the perpetrator to five years of imprisonment. The sentence was pronounced in accordance with Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which stipulates a probation period of three years. However, despite this, the convicted individual evaded the execution of the sentence and left Ukraine.
Reports indicate that in May 2025, the man was apprehended on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Following this, on March 30, 2026, he was handed over to Ukrainian law enforcement officials at one of the border crossing points, marking a significant step in the pursuit of justice.
This case is not an isolated incident. As reported by Ukrinform, throughout 2025, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reviewed 366 requests from law enforcement agencies regarding the extradition of individuals involved in criminal cases. This highlights the active efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating crime and ensuring the enforcement of judicial decisions.
The extradition of criminals is a crucial component of international cooperation in the field of criminal justice. It not only allows for the punishment of offenders but also helps prevent further criminal activities. The Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office continues to work diligently to maintain public order and ensure the safety of citizens, actively collaborating with international partners.
